Dr Craig Beall

The Beall lab is interested in the integrated physiology of glucose homeostasis particularly focusing on the sensing and response to hypoglycaemia. This includes projects studying neural cells (astrocytes/microglia/neurons) but also pancreatic islets cells, skeletal muscle, liver and macrophages. We study everything from detailed intracellular signalling cascades in individual cells through to whole body physiology, including glucose clamping.

Craig is currently a member of a number of committees in the UK including:
JDRF Scientific Advisory Council
Diabetes UK Clinical Studies Group (Long-term management and glycaemic control)
Society for Endocrinology Science Committee and the Leadership and Development Awards Selection Committee

Craig contributes to teaching on the Neuroscience and Medical Sciences programmes and the BMBS Medicine programme, including the following modules:
LSRC: Exocrine and endocrine function of the pancreas
Translational Medical Sciences
Neuropharmacology
Mitochondria in ageing
Neuroendocrinolgy
Module lead for the Neuroscience programme final year research project
Personal academic tutor for Neuroscience and MedSci students

In his spare time, Craig enjoys running and cycling (and the occasional triathlon), walking his dog Errol and a little woodwork.
